XR News Round Up[26.09.2022] – Pico 4 launched and its giving competition to Quest!

Everyone, have a Happy Navaratri! This weekend, people in India are celebrating one of the most prominent festivals, and I am very thrilled for Dandiya, a type of dance performed during Navaratri! I wish you a nice weekend as well.

Anyway, it’s been a fairly exciting week in the AR/VR sector as Apple’s mixed reality headgear has been the topic of much speculation in recent months and finally Pico 4, a potential rival, is here all set to disrupt and give Meta quest 2 a stiff opposition! We’ve got more stuff coming soon…… and now, let’s start another wonderful week with a roundup of news!

  1. Apple Will Release Several AR/VR Headsets, the First Mixed Reality Headset Could Be Called Apple Reality Pro

Apple’s mixed reality headgear has become the subject of much speculation in recent months. According to a new claim, the Cupertino-based company is developing at least three augmented reality and virtual reality headset devices, not just one.

According to Bloomberg’s Apple reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is working on three AR/VR headsets, with the first one, which has been rumoured, perhaps being dubbed the “Apple Reality Pro.” “headset. According to Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, at least 3 Apple headsets with the codenames “N301,” “N602,” and “N421″ are actively in development.”

The first of these headsets, the N30, is said to be the “Apple Reality Pro,” Apple’s high-end competitor to Meta’s planned Quest Pro headset. The N602, on the other hand, is rumoured to be the successor of Apple’s original Reality Pro headset and may be less expensive. The N421 will be Apple’s long-rumored augmented reality glasses, although it may not be available for some time, according to the story.

2. This One-Of-A-Kind AR Fashion Show Features ‘No Clothes’

If you’re a lover of augmented reality (AR) technology, you’ve probably come across the work of Doddz, a prominent AR designer who’s collaborated on a range of fantastic AR experiences with everyone from Disney and Facebook to Doja Cat and Drake.

The multi-talented developer has also collaborated on interactive fashion creations with celebrities such as Shaquille O’Neal and Anthony Joshua. Doddz expanded their fashion goals with a one-of-a-kind runway presentation at London’s Kacheete. The exhibition, which was created in collaboration with Snapchat, acted as a showcase for Doddz’s new AR fashion line, Defy. Rather than wearing actual clothing, attendees used the Snapchat app to project digital apparel over the models in real time.

Immersive technology is primed to be the next big thing in fashion, with the debut of AR headsets just a few years away. Major corporations have already begun to investigate how AR may be used to augment existing apparel or develop totally new combinations.

RTFKT, for example, has lately produced a selection of Nike NFT sweatshirts. Each NFT includes a tangible sweatshirt with a one-of-a-kind QR code that, when scanned, displays a pair of digital wings. Previously, the studio released the RTFKT x Nike Dunks Genesis Crypto Kicks, a pair of real sneakers with NFT equivalents.

3. For Enterprise, Pico 4 Pro will have eye and face tracking as well as autoIPD.

In addition to the Pico 4 consumer headset, the business has also developed a Pico 4 Pro model geared towards enterprise use-cases. Pico 4 was unveiled this week, pitting it directly against Meta’s Quest 2. However, it looks like the company is prepping for Meta’s upcoming Project Cambria, a high-end enterprise-focused standalone headset (which is rumoured to be called the Quest Pro).

Along with the Pico 4, the business unveiled the Pico 4 Pro. The headgear, which is expected to be released later this year, seems to be roughly the same in terms of technology, but with the addition of three internal cameras for eye and facial tracking. Pico states the Pico 4 Pro will feature automated IPD adjustment with eye-tracking by monitoring the user’s IPD every time the headset is put on and then altering the IPD distance with a motorised drive. While the Pico 4 has a motorised drive, it does not include eye-tracking, hence the IPD value must be adjusted manually.

Aside from eye and facial tracking, the Pico 4 Pro looks to have the same technology as the Pico 4, including a Snapdragon XR2 CPU, 2,160 2,160 (4.7MP) per-eye resolution, and pancake lenses with a reported 105° field-of-view. A complete list of the headset’s specifications can be found here.

Pico 4 Pro, on the other hand, will be significantly different in terms of software. According to the business, the headgear would have an enterprise-focused variation of its operating system and will not require any type of “personal identity” to operate, implying no logins. Pico

has yet to disclose a particular release date or pricing for the Pico 4 Pro, however it has stated that the headset would be available in the US at some point later this year.

4. Pico 4: Everything you need to know about Byte dance’s Quest 2 competitor

For the past two years, the VR market has been firmly in control. Meta Quest 2 swiftly established a quasi-monopoly by offering beginner-friendly virtual reality at an unbelievable price. The Pico 4 is the first virtual reality headset to threaten this position. It functions independently, provides well-known VR games, and costs less than a Meta Quest 2 despite having somewhat superior technology.

Byte Dance, the parent company of TikTok and a competitor to Meta, purchased Pico in the summer of 2021: The owner of the fastest-growing social network is now competing with Meta in the virtual reality industry by investing in technology and pricing its goods competitively. While Pico previously offered its VR goods primarily to corporations and Chinese customers, the company is now expanding into the Western market as ByteDance. The Pico Neo 3 Link was the first to hit the market.

Pico finally debuted the Pico 4 on September 22nd, after much speculation. This is the first time that Western consumers have the option of choosing between two low-cost standalone headsets: Meta Quest 2 and Pico 4. Although the Pico 4 incorporates certain new VR technology, it is not a direct competitor to Meta’s planned Quest Pro VR headset. The Pico 4 Pro, which will be released later, is more suited for this purpose.

5. AmazeVR receives a million-dollar investment following a successful virtual tour.

Following the achievement of a successful movie tour, more investors are seeing possibilities in virtual concerts and AmazeVR. AmazeVR has gained new investors, who have invested an additional $17 million in the firm. Mirae Asset Capital is leading the current Series B fundraising. This, as well as investments from Mirae Asset Venture Investment, CJ Investment, Smile gate Investment, GS Futures, and LG Technology Ventures, were renewed. CJ ENM and Krafton are two new strategic investors.

$17 million for virtual reality concerts

So far, the firm has put its technology through its paces on several tours, including specially designed concert buses and movie theatres. The firm intends to provide its digitally improved live experiences to music listeners at home beginning in the first quarter of 2023. Users will be able to witness the performances in the comfort of their own living rooms via in-home streaming for VR headsets such as the Meta Quest 2.

Megan Thee Stallion, a rap artist, poses in front of a fantastical fire ring. Megan Thee Stallion, a rap artist, is also on the list for the impending in-home streaming. AmazeVR would hope to get additional supporters by December 2022. The start-up received a $15 million investment in January. One explanation for the upbeat attitude might be the summer’s successful “Enter Thee Hottieverse” tour. Megan Thee Stallion’s virtual performance visited AMC cinemas in 15 locations, with 75 percent of seats sold out.

That’s almost 4.3 times the normal movie theatre occupancy rate of 15 to 20%, according to TechCrunch. At the same time, the $20 to $25 ticket price is much higher than the average movie ticket price ($9.17).

AmazeVR intends to provide in-home streaming in 2023.

AmazeVR intends to launch its “Music Metaverse service” in all major VR app stores in the first quarter of 2023. The business isn’t identifying specific platforms yet, but the news release teases them, including Apple’s expected VR headset: “AmazeVR is pioneering VR concert production and online distribution ahead of several big 2023 debuts, including next generation headsets like the Meta Quest Pro (October 2022) and Apple’s own VR gear.” According to CEO Ernest Lee, the fresh cash will assist develop collaborations with artists, agencies, labels, and publishers. Enterprise Pico 4 Pro Will Add Eye- and Face-Tracking with Auto-IPD

In addition to the Pico 4 headset for consumers, which was unveiled this week, the company also unveiled a Pico 4 Pro model for business use-cases.

With this week’s launch of Pico 4, Pico is preparing to face off against Meta’s Quest 2. However, it appears that the business is also attempting to get ready for Meta’s planned Project Cambria, a premium standalone headset with an enterprise focus (which is rumoured to be called the Quest Pro).

The business also disclosed Pico 4 Pro along with Pico 4. The headset appears to be basically the same from a hardware viewpoint and is reportedly planned to release later this year. However, three internal cameras for eye and face tracking have been added.

In order to provide automated IPD adjustment with eye-tracking, Pico claims that the Pico 4 Pro will measure the user’s IPD each time the headset is put on and then modify the IPD distance with a motorised drive. The Pico 4 has a motorised drive as well, but because it lacks eye-tracking, the IPD value must be manually set.

Pico also states that the internal cameras may be utilised for “52 points” of face-tracking, but it’s unclear whether or not most of those are derived directly from samples or inferred from models. The only commercial headsets that have attempted face-tracking have had to use large under-slung cameras due to the difficulty in gaining a clear picture of the face and the results being very susceptible to the uncanney valley. It will be interesting to see what Pico can accomplish with a camera that is largely concealed and is supposedly pointed down at the user’s mouth.

However, Pico 4 Pro will be significantly different in terms of the software. The company claims that the headgear will come with an enterprise-focused version of its operating system and won’t require any sort of “personal identification” to function, which, ideally, means no logins.

Pico says the Pico 4 Pro headset will arrive later this year and will eventually be accessible in the US, but it has not yet provided a pricing or an exact release date.

HaptX, a developer of high-end virtual reality gloves, has just raised $23 million.

HaptX Raises $23 Million Investment

The virtual reality glove manufacturer HaptX has announced the successful completion of a $23 million funding round. The money will be used to speed up the release of the company’s next generation of products, according to the company.

HaptX has spent a lot of time and effort perfecting its haptic VR gloves for business use. The firm also boasts force-feedback and micro-pneumatic haptics, which apply pressure to the skin to simulate the sensation of an object resisting your grip. While HaptX’s haptic VR gloves are the most realistic I’ve tried, they are also the heaviest and most expensive.

The company reports high demand from businesses after the release of its ‘DK2’ gloves in early 2021.

Based on this success, HaptX recently made public its receipt of a $23 million fundraising round, bringing the total to around $58 million. Verizon Ventures, Mason Avenue Investments, and Taylor Frigon Capital Partners joined the fresh round of funding led by AIS Global and Crescent Cove Advisors.

10 examples of the metaverse for business and IT leaders

Metaverse for business

Metaverse has the ability to reproduce the real-world utilising cutting-edge technology such as AR and VR. Metaverse, as the next generation of the internet and social media, provides many economic chances to businesses all over the world.

What does the Metaverse mean for business?

We are still in the early stages of the metaverse, but there is enormous promise businesses can revolutionise everything from how they connect with customers to the products and services they offer, production and distribution processes, organisational operations, and more.

According to Accenture’s Tech Vision 2022 Report, 71% of global executives believe the metaverse will have a positive commercial impact on their organisations, with 42% expecting it to be “breakthrough” or “transforming.” According to JP Morgan, the metaverse will permeate every sector in the coming years, creating market potential worth more than $1 trillion in annual income. Now is the time to plan the next decade of business, to create new worlds and markets in the metaverse.

Here Are Top 10 Metaverse benefits for businesses

Metaverse for social mer

1. Better Social Media Experience

In his letter to shareholders in October 2021, Meta (previously Facebook) founder Mark Zuckerberg used the term “Embodied Internet.” And this is exactly what social media will become if the metaverse gets widespread.

Currently, social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are 2D platforms, with users just seeing a screen and the content that is shown on it. Interaction is confined to ‘liking’ ‘commenting’ or ‘sharing’ which will be drastically altered once the metaverse is activated. Social media will become immersive, with real-time interactions and meetings, exactly as in the real world, thanks to AR and VR-powered metaverse

Instead of just a screen to connect with, social media will duplicate the real world, where people, or rather avatars of users, would interact, communicate, and engage in a 3-D realm, akin to how social media works in real life

met averse for new avenues

2. New revenue sources

Companies are already selling things and services that can only be purchased online. gucci has collaborated with Superplastic, a product and entertainment firm, to create a limited run of collector NFTs. Ralph Lauren is selling avatar clothes, while Nike is developing an NFT that connects to its real-world equivalent.

The fact that well-known fashion labels are offering digital-only clothes and accessories, following in the footsteps of gaming platforms that have been selling comparable things for many years, may speak to prospects for the larger commercial landscape.

Avila believes that selling digital assets might be a lucrative opportunity for many businesses.

Metaverse for education

3. Education and Learning

The Metaverse’s educational and learning potential is as exciting as its other applications. VR mixed with Metaverse effects has elevated the learning experience to a whole new level.

Students can now witness live experiments that make use of more extensive and high- quality knowledge resources. In a recent video from New York, pupils learn astronomy in a virtual spaceship rather than in a classroom. This is only the beginning of a new age in education.

Metaverse also removes language barriers by allowing students from all over the world to receive knowledge from a unified digital place free of social and linguistic obstacles.

Another Metaverse example is Microsoft’s Mesh, a mixed reality platform where instructors, staff, and students can interact using 3D avatars. Mesh may be used to attend video conferences and live sessions by using Microsoft Holo lens, a wearable AI.

metaverse for brands

4. Engaged users

For internet users, the Metaverse gives up a whole new universe of entertainment possibilities. If your company is ready to offer your clients a Metaverse experience, you could get a more interactive and engaged audience for your brand.

You can give your consumers anything from virtual items to gaming adventures to AR/VR showrooms.

metaverse for entertainment

5. Entertainment’s Future

In the next days, we may witness the birth of a new, never-before-seen entertainment business at the heart of the metaverse: Consider virtual concerts attended by millions of avatars, each paying a charge to get admission and experiencing live performances by top- rated celebrities from the comfort of their own homes.

Another notable application of a metaverse is virtual reality theme parks, where individuals from all over the world may attend, participate in, and enjoy unique rides without leaving their homes.

Sports are the same way: unique competitive sports can be organised within the metaverse, complete with advanced and fair sports betting, and more. These useful and effective commercial applications are just the beginning. When a fully functional, feature-rich,

immersive metaverse is built, we may see a plethora of various business applications such as eCommerce, legal sector, manufacturing, commerce, books, movies, audio streaming, and more.

Tech Ahead is currently testing and studying some cutting-edge metaverse-based commercial apps that have the potential to revolutionise the world And we will continue to share our learning experiences in order to empower our clients and consumers and assist them in accelerating their business growth.

6. Real estate

One of Metaverse’s key benefits is its capacity to provide clients with the ultimate virtual reality experience. It’s no surprise that a real estate market specialty might be profitable using Metaverse.

With Metaverse property tour choices, realtors do not have to travel to the site, and clients do not have to waste time travelling to dozens of houses. In fact, prospective buyers can take a Metaverse real estate tour and study all available alternatives in real time.

Furthermore, the virtual tour in Metaverse can be customised to the client’s scale, taste, and design. The real estate industry is also planning to invest in Metaverse app development that is specifically tailored to the demands and requirements of realtors.

Metaverse for events

7. Virtual event opportunities

A live performance by your favourite musician may not be as amazing on TV as it is in the Metaverse. You may even host virtual events for your consumers to give them a sense of presence in their selected location.

Museums and galleries can also use Metaverse to obtain the attention they deserve. An NFT avatar show was recently held, and 300 distinct avatars were sold in a single day.

Sell and showcase products eCommerce retailers and enterprises are actively embracing Metaverse to give their customers a better experience when trying on clothes, eyewear, house furniture, and everything in between. Businesses can also set up virtual stores to exhibit their products and services, potentially attracting a significant number of new customers.

meta verse for innovation

8. Innovative marketing

As previously said, Metaverse has pioneered a unique way to brand storytelling in order to foster inventive awareness and business identity.

Metaverse alters storytelling and “story living,” where the audience is no longer just a passive listener but an active participant making product choices.

meta verse for cryptocurrency

9. Simple transactions

Cryptocurrency and the Metaverse are inextricably linked. Today’s digital environment necessitates digital money, which has grown even more accessible thanks to digital wallets and cryptocurrency. In the Metaverse, users do not need to link their bank accounts, and payments are merely a few taps away.

meta verse for remote working

10. Remote working

The Metaverse has caused a significant shift in the way traditional business is conducted.

Numerous businesses are already utilising the Metaverse’s virtual business architecture. Nike, Intel, YouTube, McDonalds, and emerging startup’s such as Gravity Sketch and Upland are among those with virtual offices.

Another Metaverse use case for remote work is virtual reality training, in which employees can be instructed through a simulated experience. One of the most significant benefits of the Metaverse is VR training, which blends official corporate training with hands-on learning by providing employees with access to videos, manuals, audios, and other digital environments.

Aside from training, the most popular developments in the digital workplace are remote working in virtual environments, worker communication and collaboration via VR devices and remote meetings using 3D avatars.

Conclusion

The above mentioned Metaverse use cases and benefits provide a general overview of what Metaverse is and how it works for organisations and enterprises.

Metaverse will become an important component of our daily life over time. While early Metaverse prototypes are already being tested in numerous industries, it is now time for businesses to take the next step and incorporate Metaverse technology.
