This week (June 16 to June 22, 2025) we have seen many updates from Meta in differet categories.

Well meta has already affected VR Development with all new updates which already came this month.

I will not surprise to see if this year we are going to see lots of other updates by Meta

1. 🕶 Meta Teams Up with Oakley: Stylish Smart Glasses Are Coming

Oakley smart glasses
Meta just teamed up with EssilorLuxottica-the same crew that makes Oakley and Ray-Ban-to crank out a fresh set of smart glasses under the Oakley banner. These wont just recycle the Ray-Ban Meta vibe; theyll lean hard into a sportier look and feel.

Why You Should Care

This partnership gives Meta a back door into the gym, the trail, and the racetrack rather than the rooftop patio. Ray-Ban targets street style; Oakley talks heat, speed, and mud. By splitting the difference, Meta is chasing audiences that usually tell tech gear to stay home.

What to Watch For?

Expect the new shades to land before 2025 wraps up. Rumor has it theyll pack cameras, a voice assistant, maybe even a heads-up display that doesnt scream nerd on a mountain. Designers are hinting at beefed-up frames that shrug off drops, sweat, and serious UV

Jotted Thoughts

If Meta nails the weight, battery drain, and weather-proofing, these glasses could turn training runs and snow days into high-tech playgrounds. Oakey lenses already feel like armor; adding AR overlays might finally make wearables feel actually wearable in the wild.

Launched (June 20, 2025)

Meta dropped exciting news for wearable tech fans, teaming up with EssilorLuxottica to launch the Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses, as reported by Road to VR. These sporty shades, starting at $399, pack serious upgrades over the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, and I’m honestly stoked to see where this goes. As someone who’s always on the move, the idea of sleek, AI-powered glasses for my runs sounds like a game-changer.

2. Meta Closes Onward Dev Team Post-Update

Onward

This week’s XR news stings: Meta has shut down Downpour Interactive, creators of VR mil-sim Onward (2020), just after its stellar 2.0 update.

The Road to VR article reports the team’s merger into Camouflaj (Iron Man VR). Update 2.0, with revamped visuals, AI, maps, and co-op, is Onward’s last hurrah—no more content or major fixes.

As a fan, I’m gutted; those squad nights were epic. Onward remains playable on Quest and Steam, but its future feel dim. Here’s to hoping the team shines in new projects. More XR next week!

3. Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition Leaks, Set for Imminent Launch

Big news for VR gamers this week: a Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition has leaked, with a rumored launch as early as June 24, 2025, according to UploadVR.

As someone who’s been itching for more VR-Xbox synergy, this feels like a dream come true. The leak, first spotted on X, shows a sleek black Quest 3S with Xbox-green accents, bundled with an Xbox Wireless Controller, a matching Elite Strap, and three months of Game Pass Ultimate, all for a reported $399.

Building on Meta’s 2022 partnership with Microsoft, this 128GB Quest 3S retains the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip and mixed reality capabilities of the Quest 3 but uses Quest 2’s fresnel lenses for affordability. It’s designed for Xbox Cloud Gaming, letting you stream Game Pass titles on a virtual big screen—no console required.

While it lacks exclusive VR games or premium Quest 3 lenses, as some X posts lament, it’s a budget-friendly entry for VR newcomers. The hype is real, but I’m crossing my fingers for a smooth launch. More XR updates next week!
